A very unusual antique two part gold and silver crucifix. Composed of two sections, the front is 14K yellow gold, the back is silver, held together by wooden dowels in the back apparently original to the piece. Purchased as part of a collection of eighteenth and nineteenth century Greek and Russian religious pieces. This cross is very likely late eighteenth-early nineteenth century, hand chiseled. An interesting symbiosis of precious gold and classic silver held together by wood, a representation of Christ's cross. Three sacred materials of relevance to Christianity. Beautiful aged patina.
