A rare antique Georgian era sepia mourning miniature in solid 9ct gold. This unique miniature comes from England and is made of solid 9ct gold adorned with blue and white enamel. The rock crystal glass preserves an undamaged miniature depicting a young woman glazing at the swallow bird flying away from her. Symbolism of this miniature: We see here a young lady (who most likely has commissioned this piece) glazing towards horizon. The fact that she looks up in the skies signifies her hope. A swallow bird here symbolizes her loyalty and love towards the departed dear one. As we don’t see a tomb, a weeping willow or angels shows that this piece is for a long departed loved one, rather than the perished one. Behind the young lady we see an oak tree, which represents her strength in coping with this separation. This pendant is a recognizable piece of late 1700's - early 1800's (Georgian era) mourning jewelry art. It is preserved in an outstanding condition and can be work both as a brooch and a pendant. Will make a great addition to any mourning jewelry collection!
