This magnificent metallic coat dress dates back to the Sixties, when an up-and-coming Bill Blass was still designing for Maurice Rentner, the decades-old American label he would eventually buy and make his own. Classic and glamorous, it is an early example of his celebrated aesthetic. It is impeccably cut from brocade resplendent in zigzag stripes of silver, copper, white, ivory and gold. The double-breasted silhouette closes below a prim spread collar with six textured brass buttons. Darts at the bodice beautifully shape the figure, while gathers at the A-line skirt and a slightly raised waistline, hem and sleeve cuffs lend it a youthful twist. A buttoned belt at the back ensures it looks just as smart leaving as it does making an entrance. Wear this vintage find dressed down for every day or dressed up for a special occasion. With today’s comfort with pairing high and low pieces, it’s a style that can be reached for again and again.
