Rendered in gleaming white platinum, this hand-fabricated ring from the Art Deco era (circa 1920s) features a brilliant, colorful, and natural solid Australian opal from the famed Lightning Ridge mines that displays an electrifying spectrum of colors including red, orange, yellow, green, blue, violet and turquoise. Black opals from Australia's Lightning Ridge mines are the most valuable and prized opals in the world. A pair of .02-carat old-cut diamonds are seated within delicately engraved bezels on either side of the opal. The split shank rejoins at the halfway point and continues around to the back as a single band, the interior of which retains a maker's hallmark (which I cannot read) and metal fineness mark for platinum. This gorgeous and colorful opal measures approximately 14.46mm x 10mm x 3.69mm and weighs 3 carats. It displays very light superficial surface wear under magnification –as expected with a century-old jewel– but the opal is not cracked or chipped and shows no internal hazing. This petite ring is a size 5 and could be resized by your local jeweler.
