Protégé of the notorious Rei Kawakubo, Junya Watanabe is known for offering similarly expressive and artistic works that push the boundaries of fashion and the avant-garde. Showcasing his hallmark studies in volume, layering, and textural mixtures, Watanabe’s Spring 2008 collection was light, cheerful, and upbeat while still carrying with it the usual gravity of his other work. This chain-trim top is done in an exquisite Liberty cotton floral print that boasts a magical blend of warm copper, bronze, and rust tones that are enlivened by rich shades of midnight blue and flecks of pearl white. The one-shouldered top is an engaging work of asymmetry. From the neckline, the fabric has been gathered and balloons from the right arm down to the waist from which the top straightens to an angled hemline. The antiqued gold chain detail on the neck paired with the fabric and fullness of the silhouette give this top a regal air that would definitely be a show-stopper for a cocktail event or could be styled for an exotic evening look. A different colorway of this top can be seen as look #39 from that season’s runway. Size: Medium Bust: 36 Waist: 30 This top closes with a concealed zip and a tubular chain clasp. The top is unlined but has been reinforced with twill tape around the neckline. This top is in excellent condition with the original tags still attached. High-quality vintage pieces like this are yours to live in and love while increasing in value every year. It’s never too soon to start collecting them, as an investment in your wardrobe—and in yourself.
