Although Karl Lagerfeld was acclaimed for his extensive tenure at the helm of notable fashion houses such as Chanel or Fendi, Lagerfeld undoubtedly was a skilled designer in his own right. Similar to many of the brands that he designed for, Lagerfeld’s own lines represent an old-world couture vision that focuses on hand crafted details, textural combinations and making the subtle high-end. From his Spring/Summer 1990 collection, this glamorous bustier is done in a deep black silk crepe that is bordered by a sequined and beaded motif that adds a 1920s vibe. Black and red floral designs are beaded in the midst of pearlescent sequins that create a glitzy pop against the black fabric. The beaded borders enhance the hourglass silhouette of the bustier that create the illusion of a nipped waist while accentuating the bust and hips just the right amount finishing with a subtle petal-shaped scalloping at the hemline. This bustier is a fresh take on a classic style that could be styled to dress up a casual look or to craft an evening separates outfit. This bustier can be seen in the featured images on that season’s runway. Size estimate: XS/S Bust: 32 inches Waist: 24 .5 inches Length: 20.5 inches This bustier is boned allowing for ample support and structure to the garment. It is fully lined with a black rayon and closes at centre back with a concealed zip. In excellent condition, this bustier has been professionally eco dry cleaned and pressed. High-quality vintage pieces like this are yours to live in and love while increasing in value every year. It’s never too soon to start collecting them, as an investment in your wardrobe—and in yourself.
