An early 20th century opal and diamond brooch, the oval cabochon-cut black opal, measuring approximately 1.8 x 1.2cm, to the centre of a rectangular rose-cut diamond-set surround with an additional overlapping frame of rubover-set old European-cut diamonds with a pearl at each cardinal point, all millegrain set to a platinum mount with a gold brooch pin fitting, circa 1920, measuring overall approximately 2.7 x 3.7mm, gross weight 5.7grams. This vintage brooch is in good condition for its age. Unmarked, tested as platinum with 14ct gold pin. This marvellous opal brooch comes from the collection of Bentley & Skinner, the London jewellers by appointment to both Her Majesty the Queen and His Royal Highness the Prince of Wales. This brooch features a central black opal that has a wonderful array of bright colours within it ranging from bright pink to lime green to radiant blue. The stunning opal is surrounded by a geometric, elegant openwork platinum frame set with dazzling diamonds and four lustrous yellow-hued pearls. The overall effect is splendid, capturing the glamour of the roaring 1920s. Should you choose to make this purchase we would be delighted to send it to you in a Bentley & Skinner handmade leather case packed in a gift-wrapped Bentley & Skinner black and gold presentation box. Shortly afterwards we will send you on a valuation for insurance purposes for your reference and safekeeping.
