This is a wonderful and rare antique Victorian Squirrel in a Tree Motif Locket Pendant. The locket has a wonderful raised image of a squirrel eating a nut in a wonderful tree with branches and leaves. The reverse is decorated with engraved flower and leaf motifs. The locket is Gold Filled. This is one of the rarest antique animal motif lockets we have seen, as finding one with a squirrel in a tree is so special. It is antique and dates to the Belle Epoque, Victorian period. The locket opens to reveal places for two photos. It has the original inserts on both sides and the cover is present on one side. The wonderful squirrel in a tree dances delightfully around the neck. Animal inspired jewels as well as lockets are all the rage today and finding one of this quality is just a dream. The locket dates to circa 1860 - 1910. The locket is 1.75 inches tall including the bales. Without the bale it is 1 3/8 inches (36mm) tall and is 1 1/8 inches (30mm) wide.
